Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION: What the hell is this website and why does it exist?

ANSWER: This is the official website of the Ancient Order of the Reveeting Society. It exists to aid our noble mission in the preservation and proliferation of Wisconsinite Deep Lore.

QUESTION: What is "lore" anyways?

ANSWER: Wisconsin Lore is the accumulation of our cultural history and folklore as Wisconsinites. From our cannibal founding father and our necromancer governor, to our battles over bridge placement and our rebellion of lumberjack pirates, to our hodags, werewolves, and manbats. All these elements combine together to form the Deep Lore of our noble State.

QUESTION: What does the word "reveeting" mean?

ANSWER:

QUESTION: Everyone says the hodag was a hoax. Is this true?

ANSWER: There are numerous individuals claiming that the story of the hodag, first put forward by Brother Gene Shepard of the Reveeting Society, was a "hoax." They are simply uninformed on the issue. Those ignorant persons should seek out Brother Lake Shore Kearney's tome, The Hodag and Other Tales of the Logging Camps, which remains the highest authority on Wisconsinite Lumber Lore to this day. We firmly encourage doubters and skeptics to read this document, which makes it clear that Brother Shepard did not perpetrate a hoax in his account of the hodag!

QUESTION: Where can I buy some hodag eggs?

ANSWER: Contact Brother Mike Essex in Siberia, Wisconsin, for details on the eggs. The Ancient Order recognizes this is a bit difficult given that Siberia, Wisconsin, no longer exists. But with enough determination and study of the Lore, we believe anyone is capable of finding Brother Essex, if they are truly worthy.

QUESTION: How can I join the Ancient Order of the Reveeting Society?

ANSWER: It is understandable that Wisconsinites of exceptional caliber would seek to become Reveeteers themselves. Any lumberjack, lorekeeper, or bear-wrestler who feels they are worthy of consideration for entry into the esteemed ranks of the Ancient Order should seek out our headquarters, the Historic Koenitzer Tent located in Doveland, Wisconsin (see the Contact page for address). We accept new applicants at our HQ on all State holidays, so long as they can prove their caliber.

QUESTION: Where can I learn more about Wisconsin Deep Lore?

ANSWER: This Website contains three main resources for further learning of Wisconsin Lore. Our videos detail the history of the state. We maintain a definitive list of Wisconsin's 101 Mythical Creatures. And our work-in-progress bestiary seeks to further detail the actual biology of these creatures. Outside of our site, Brother Lake Shore Kearney's tome The Hodag and Other Tales of the Logging Camps is an invaluable resource regarding the Lumber Lore of the State. Other books on Wisconsin Lore we would recommend, but are not directly connected to, are: August Derleth's The Wisconsin: River of a Thousand Isles; Martin Hintz' Wisconsin Farm Lore; Tea Krulos' Wisconsin Legends and Lore; Clithanus' Confessions; Linda S. Godfrey's The Beast of Bray Road and her other book Monsters of Wisconsin; Robert E. Gard & L.G. Sorden's Wisconsin Lore; the website Wisconsinology; the website of the Pine Barrens Institute; the website of the W-Files; and the supposedly "perfectly ordinary Latin hymnal" that they keep locked in a cage in Andersen Library in Whitewater.

QUESTION: Why is a cow chip the official State Muffin of Wisconsin? I mean what is that even supposed to mean?

ANSWER: Though it pains us to admit it, there are some questions beyond even the lorekeeping of the Reveeteers. That the cow chip is the official State Muffin by law is, undeniable fact. What this proclamation means for the state is beyond mortal comprehension.

QUESTION: Who was correct in the Bridge War? The East or the West?

ANSWER: Of the three founders of Milwaukee, Mayor George H. Walker of Walker's Point was undoubtedly the most Reveeteer-like. At 350 lbs of pure manliness, Walker was recorded to be a nimble dancer, a graceful ice skater, and a volunteer fireman despite his incredible girth. While none of the founders of Milwaukee were Reveeteers themselves, Mayor Walker would undoubtedly be the most qualified for entry. Therefore, since the West Side was favored by George H. Walker, we can only conclude that the West was correct in the Bridge War conflict.

QUESTION: Which is more dangerous, the demon sealed within Devil's Lake, or the demon sealed within Devil's Island?

ANSWER: Historically speaking, Cthugha has caused death and destruction on a greater scale than Ithaqua has.

QUESTION: Why do the Reveeteers support the sovereignty of Winneconne? Aren't you loyal to Wisconsin.

ANSWER: The Ancient Order of the Reveeting Society is loyal to the Wisconsin people above all else. As such, we recognize the rights of all Wisconsinites to be included on the map, and therefore support the secession of the wronged people of Winneconne. Plus we like their flag.

QUESTION: But what is with those weird pyramids under Rock Lake anyways?

ANSWER: Stop asking this question. These repeated inquiries are borderline harassment and if they continue we will take legal action.
